What DNS records do I need to set?

Usually one record at your registrar. Ambit shows you exactly what to add.

When you add a custom domain to your workspace, Ambit generates the exact DNS record you need to set at your domain registrar. The record connects your domain to Ambit's servers, so when a visitor types your URL, the browser knows where to send them.

Where to find the record

In your workspace settings, open Domains, and click the domain you're connecting. The DNS record details are shown there:

  • Type — usually a CNAME record (or an A record for a root domain)

  • Name — what to enter in the "host" or "name" field at your registrar

  • Value — what to enter in the "target" or "value" field at your registrar

Copy each piece exactly as shown. A small typo (a trailing dot, an extra space) is enough to keep the record from resolving.

Adding the record at your registrar

Sign in to the company where you bought the domain. Find the DNS or Manage DNS section. Add a new record with the type, name, and value from Ambit.

Save. Most registrars apply the change within minutes.

When the DNS doesn't seem to work

A few things to check:

  • Wait a bit longer. DNS changes can take up to a day to propagate, even when they usually take minutes.

  • Double-check the values. Match them exactly to what Ambit gave you, character for character.

  • Look for conflicting records. If you already have a record at the same name, it can override the new one. Remove the conflict.
